Strix: open-source AI that pentests your own app
Reel 20 · 1 tool · October 4, 2026
In the AI era, attackers have autonomous agents too. In September 2026 a single operator ran open-source AI agents (one of them Strix) against online retailers, compromising at least 27 companies in under a week and taking 600,000+ card records (Gambit Security). The defensive move is to run the same kind of tool against your own app first.
How it works
- 1AI hackers, on your code. Strix agents act just like real hackers: reconnaissance, exploitation and validation out of the box. Findings come with a working proof-of-concept, not a false positive.
- 2Real exploit in the demo. In Strix's own demo it finds a business-logic bug that lets a shopper place an order with a negative total (−$149.90), confirms it, and writes a CVSS-scored vulnerability report.
- 3Fix and gate your PRs. It gives remediation guidance, and the open-source tool runs in GitHub Actions on every pull request (with your own LLM key) to block insecure code before it ships. One-click autofix PRs are a Strix Cloud feature.
- 4Run it yourself. Needs Docker and an LLM API key (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc.). Strix Cloud needs neither.

Good to know
- Only ever run Strix against systems you own or are explicitly authorized to test. Unauthorized testing is illegal.
- Star count and the attacker-campaign figures are as of early October 2026.
- An independent guide by @copilot_shogo. Not affiliated with Strix.
